Wild water swimming. Box End Park: lakes created by the River Great Ouse flooding the old gravel pits. There's a water sports centre there now with sailing, wake boarding - and the possibility of wild water swimming for the intrepid. Waterfowl - scary herons as well as swans, geese and ducks - criss-cross the swimmers from reeds to rushes. Wind sweeps the surface into darks and lights. Trails of bubbles and shoals of leaves float amongst the ramps, jumps and lane-marking buoys. Beneath the water - who knows? Certainly weed, mud and sharp stones. Small fish, I guess, and the full array of microbial life. Maybe more. I just took a black and white dip before the paint ran out. Shapes and colours may rise tomorrow. |
