2 more letters for 2 more views in streets beginning with 2 other letters of the alphabet - part of my Alphasketch series which will be exhibited throughout November at Bedford Park Pavilion cafe. Here are today's sketches: U is for Union (Street) and I is for Iddesleigh (Road).

The pub in Union street is The Forester's Arms. This afternoon the manager kindly came out to see what I was up to and approved of my art-for-charity idea. Then a group of young customers emerged and gave me the thumbs up. A passing cyclist and two locals came to look and made nice noises. One of the great things about sketching outdoors is how many people come and chat. People seem cheered that someone is publicly attempting to portray community life on paper.

Earlier today, I'd been sketching in Iddesleigh road, outside the Janata Superstore and greengrocery. Crates of melons, pumpkins, marrows, tomatoes, onions - and a constant flow of shoppers. I liked the scene of 21st century business conducted under an awning and a tree, against a backdrop of Victorian church and terraced housing.
