Further ink and watercolour paintings today. These two are part of my 'river' series. The first, with the reeds on the right foreground, is a quick 40-minute sketch of Bedford's boating lake, fed by the river Great Ouse. The second is a 2-hour painting of a willow tree on a small island, surrounded by water lilies, in one of the finger lakes in Priory Country Park (also, presumably, containing Great Ouse water).
These were experiments working quickly with a Uni pin brush pen, an old Korean reservoir brush and a tiny Poundland/Christmas cracker palette (see photo below). Reassuringly portable.
After I'd painted, I met a man called Mark who'd been photographing the herons that were nesting in the willow tree. We had a good chat about art and wildlife - it turned out that he knew a lot about both.
