Road meant death for one unfortunate pigeon today. The casual damage and destruction done by one animal to others does not seem to reduce - even when that animal knows that its killing machines are poisoning and over-heating its very own environment. You'd think a rational animal would, therefore, adjust its behaviour. The delicate pink foot splays out behind, the feathers and down still soft and stirred by breeze, the pens beautifully fanned as if in one last flight - but the eye closed, the beak split, the blood congealing on the asphalt. Next to the bird the yellow lines, signifying no waiting at any time: crude coagulated prohibitions painted by the same animal who kills on purpose and by accident. Road exhibition at the Basement Gallery: 12-16 Sept - raising money for the less fortunate. |
