Ouse Road hollyhocks today. Watercolour. Beautiful spires of vibrant pink and pale yellow flowers, standing out against the shadow of the gables, walls and windows. I would like to return to this - perhaps in gouache - and try and do more justice to the colours. Gardens and trees often define Bedford's roads as much as their houses. But I'm conscious that the people themselves are too often missing from my paintings. I visited the Basement Gallery today, in preparation for my exhibition, 'Road', which opens on Tuesday 12th of September. |
