Three women on the night bus home, with the quotation from 'The Wasteland': 'There is always another one walking beside you.' There are faces in the windows, reflections from inside and outside. The women are separated in their own thoughts, caged by the bars of the bus, but they are not alone. I was trying to create a dark ambivalence - both of worldly menace and of spiritual reassurance. The far woman seems spot-lit and haloed ; the near women gaze ahead, partially obscured by the reflected light and the side of the bus. |
