Mist on Chiltern Avenue. Birch, Prunus, Lime and Laburnum. From a photograph taken today - and then worked on indoors. The paper was too light-weight to take much water, so the washes were restricted. I'm finding it difficult to gauge the relative tones, but that's because I'm still not using enough water and paint. Tomorrow, I'll be sketching from photos of the construction site - and maybe returning (indoors) to the sketch I started on Friday (outdoors). I will also work with heavier paper. I always promise myself that, one day, I'll work again in oil paint. It requires more determination and space than I can manage at the moment. And there's so much still to learn about watercolour - and so little time. |
