More shoreline relics. The ammonite was in a stone cracked open by a geolist on Staithes beach in 2016 and handed to me as an inferior example. It seemed pretty amazing to me. Suddenly here was the imprint of a life - in a stillborn egg of stone - seeing the light of day for the first time in millions of years. I wonder what that would feel like - if 'feel' is the right word. 'Imagine' might be better. Broken open, exposed after long darkness - just an impression of the past. Sounds like life after lockdown. |
