Challenge no 19: pencil, garden, 'space', 10 mins. This is my second attempt - using pencil more loosely, more slowly, more observation of darks and distance. More attention to how the paper alone helps to indicate space. The subject is a bed of staked tomatoes. The first attempt was too furious and scribbly, trying to describe the space beneath the birch canopy. As for so many of these 'exercises', whatever is learnt vanishes quickly if not used - or at least pursued. I will - and in pastel, as promised. But today I planted 40 beans. You can't do everything. |
