Gunnersbury Park is one of several Bedford roads constructed alongside - and, in this case, over - low grassy channels. I think these may be called 'swales' - designed to avoid flooding in the event of sudden downpours. This week I will exhibit the first 8 letters of the alphabet from my 26-sketch series of Bedford streets - for example, G is for Gunnersbury. It's been a compulsive sketching journey: studying the street index before biking off to unfamiliar roads. I've been intrigued by contours, textures, and turnings; by the patterns of parked cars, lampposts and telephone wires; by the fascinating conversations I've had with curious passers-by. And I've been very lucky with the weather! |
