This is the view from a Derbyshire garden: Tuesday 8 June. Soft pencil, loosely held: 20 minutes. The afternoon view across the valley from Winster to Birchover. The tones were challenging - the darkest darks appearing both in the woods near the horizon, in the trees behind the houses and on the shaded side of their chimneys, and between the poppy stalks in the foreground. The poppies were bright yellow and orange - indicated here by circled white paper. Then came the brightness of the sun on the roof tiles of the houses in the valley. Then the sunlit hillside opposite. Then the sky. |
