This is the rusting hulk of a metal-baler in a car park (note the Fiat and BMW - as well as my bike wheel - on the very right.) Part of my Alphasketch 2023 series. I think this might be an example (in more ways than one) of what a friend of mine calls 'grim art'. By that he means paintings of the 'uglier' side of industrial locations. I find there's something almost human about old, abandoned machinery like this. Maybe I just empathise with it, I don't know. I was told at the Barker's Lane dump (or 'tidy tip') that most of what's thrown in the designated skips doesn't, in fact, get recycled; it goes to landfill. So I sought out EMR Metal recycling in Cauldwell Walk. EMR actually buy metal, compress it and and then ship it to Turkey, India and China. |
