A watercolour sketch of the burnt-out shell of Bedford's North Wing hospital. 4 years since the fire, and still the building is derelict and boarded up, open to the elements. Notices say, 'Dangerous building - keep out'. It was built at the end of the 19th century as a workhouse, apparently. At the end of the 20th century, it had become the NHS maternity unit where our two sons were born. Now the plan is to develop a mental health unit on the site. The whirligig of time ... |
