Lime tree sprouting from its base. Down by the river, at sunset. The brightest thing was the sky in the river. I'd spent the afternoon digging and raking, then planting onions and broad beans on the allotment. I hadn't the energy to faff about with acrylics, so I sat by the river with my pen and sketched. The trouble was, my paints and brushes were in my other jacket. And the light was fading. So I had to make do with hasty black on white. Then I came home and added colours and tones based on a photo. The trouble is that I hadn't managed my phone camera to pick up how the setting sun shone through the trees. The sky just showed white. Anyway, what I wanted was the sprouting tree and the goose and the couple walking off towards the river and the parked car. |
