Two sketches: one in de Parys avenue of houses built in 1900 and another in Zander Grove of houses built in 2020.
The first sketch began with the light finely angled and reflected, but after 80 minutes the view became nearly a silhouette, and I had to squint to see colour. The second sketch was caught at sundown in 40 minutes as the shadow crawled up the whitewashed wall and the cars came and went.
I wanted to look at the views framed by the gaps between the houses - the rooftops and landscapes beyond. And I'm exploring the town alphabetically by street name.
I don't know why de Parys avenue is so named - some connection with the Belgian family, perhaps. Zander is a kind of fish and the road may be so called because it is only a stone's throw from the River Great Ouse. (The trees beyond the far house grow on the riverbank).
