These 9 exploratory sketches look at the river from two points of view - riparian ruminations. I started top left, outside town, looking East over the wildlife lakes. There's a line of poplars on the horizon and a riverside track in the foreground. River and cloudy sky are the brightest elements. Top centre is a closer look at colours and poplars, top right poplar silhouettes. Middle left and centre try to bring the levels closer. Then I came a mile upstream to the embankment in town. I look at shapes - the arches of the suspension bridge, the tree branches and the curve of the river. At the bottom some pedestrians walk and wait. Darks and lights.
