On Tuesday, I visited the Basement Gallery to see the exhibition, 'Look More Than Once'. I was delighted to meet fellow artist, Ronald McKay, and learn something about his journey and his techniques. This morning I prepared programmes. This afternoon, I revisited several unfinished acrylic paintings. Sometimes blobs of paint have dried and then been knocked off, leaving little bald patches. So some restoration was needed. Maybe I should have varnished. Also, I noticed that, when I began using acrylics, I had been applying them too thinly. I had made a watery, insipid sketch of these hazel catkins on the allotment. I had also allowed every brush-stroke to dry, which impeded blending. Now, with thicker paint, I can achieve brighter colours and can blend wet colours together. The catkins are now beginning to glow in the evening sun - as I had originally intended. |
