Very much a sketch at the cold river's edge round about 5pm today. My hands were going numb so I couldn't stay more than an hour. Plein air indeed. I envied a photographer who came and went. I was looking south across the river from the spit of land between Longholme lake and Fenlake. The near reeds are part of a 're-wilding' scheme to restore wildfowl habitat. A few moorhens, ducks and geese appeared while I was sketching. Storm-ravaged and fallen trees characterise this stretch of the river Great Ouse. In some places the dredging is needed in order to allow human navigation. |
