No time for more than a quick sketch of the late afternoon sun sliding into the new cut. This channel runs parallel to Barker's Lane and cycle track 51 - the disused railway line to Sandy - and carries water around Priory Country park and Cardington lock. I saw a rat scurrying along the far bank, just above the water-line. Willows bend across the stream and their roots make ideal crevices for wildlife. I sat on a place on the bank that had been used by fishermen, smokers, drinkers, lovers, solitaries and ne'er-do-wells. I am all and none of these. |
