This morning I undertook challenge no. 15 - pastel abstract in 9 minutes. This was loosely based on a memory of tulips in late spring, their hearts open, their white petals splayed and falling, grass dark below them. 6 chalks: black, white, yellow, sage green and lavender on beige paper. My friend Edward challenges me to work quickly. It's a method that cuts to the core, releases subconscious impulses and opens up possibilities.
This afternoon I went to the building site again. The far end is now managed by Spar and Blakemore. The new gateway at the near end is still being worked by McLaren. Clouds frothed and streaked across a sulky blue sky and the wind ruffled the pages of my notebook. But I was buoyed up by experience of speed-sketching - just grab some hi-vis men, a big yellow vehicle, a roof line, a fence and catch the escaping clouds. 20 minutes.
Anyway, there was work to be done on the allotment - and I think a shed sketch may have raised another £50 for charity.
