Cygnets in light and shade amongst the lily pads, today near the town bridge. This is a quick watercolour and ink study of the shapes and tones of the cygnets. Some were bleached in sunlight while their brown plumage was more clearly visible in shade. In the sunshine, the water reflected the blue of the sky while in the shade some translucence make it possible to see through to the mud beneath - and even the webbed foot of the near cygnet. The full painting will have the bridge's reflection and, in the foreground, an angle of bank. I'll also rearrange the cygnets. I've been following some of the compositional exercises of Ian Roberts on his Youtube channel. |
