A couple of cherry trees on Selsey Way. They are just coming into bloom, so much of the growth is bud and leaf, tightly clustered, with a handful of frilly white petals showing. The buds look like neat pearls set in red foliage. And the bark, by contrast, is black and knobbly. the trees have grown lop-sided because their branches would otherwise overhang the road and block the school traffic. I'll post a photo tomorrow. It was sunny so the shadows were actually darker and bluer than I have managed to show. When I sat down to sketch, I realised that I had forgotten my water bottle, so I had to drain some drops from the reservoir of my old Korean brush - it's a bit like a fountain pen. What little water I had, swilled about in the bottom of an old plastic film container. But sometimes that kind of unforeseen restriction actually helps. |
