Birch at dusk, Charcoal, chalk, green and purple pastel. 80 mins. I began with chalk and some faint charcoal. Then the green pastel, letting the grey paper stand for the shadier foliage. Finally, some purple and darkert charcoal to tighten outlines and deepen shadow - before the light ran out and everything turned to silhouette and biting flies. I wonder if, exhausted by confinement, we lose our natural caution and, in longing to be fully ourselves, ironically make uncharacteristically poor decisions. |
